Youth Camp

Offered Every Summer Around June
The Youth Camp is a week long day camp that opens the doors to the career of Law Enforcement and the many different areas and specialties that this career has to offer.
The Camp goes from Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm every day. Each day there is a new activity and area of specialty taught. The first day the kids learn about the History of the Sheriff's Office and Police Ethics. Later that day we hit the mats with self-defense and arrest techniques taught by our own Self-Defense Instructors. The kids even have the chance for pay back when they take down one of our own deputies in the red-man padded suit.
Throughout the rest of the week the kids are taught specialties such as Vehicle Crash Reconstruction and are shown how to mathematically prove the speed of a vehicle by the distance and arch from a tires skid mark. This is shown in the field where we have our own Reconstruction Deputies recreate a simulated crash with real cars and skid marks.
Participants are able to meet the S.R.T. / S.W.A.T. members and have a blast when we go to the firearms range and see a live fire S.W.A.T. demonstration. The kids are taught firearms safety and are able to shoot many different weapons used by the S.W.A.T. team. The kids have the chance to perform just as the S.W.A.T. team would and wear all the gear as if they are called out and need to clear the building.
The kids are shown a presentation on crime scene investigation and then given a mock crime scene to investigate by members of the Major Crimes Division. Crime scene preservation and documentation are taught as well as how to use all the cool tools that detectives utilize while solving a case. We also teach the kids how the Search and Rescue Team operates by setting up their own search team and learning how to use a hand held GPS to locate a lost person. This is all done out in the field and is all hands on.
On Friday we have our water rescue day where we pull out the boats and learn water safety and how to throw life lines and use other rescue techniques. Everyone has the chance to operate the boat and navigate the river just like our Marine Deputies. We finish the week with a Barbeque at Beaver Dick Park and slide show of all the activities accomplished in the previous days.
The Youth Camp is for both boys and girls that are currently in the 7th grade to 12th grade. The cost of the Camp is $50 dollars which covers meals, t-shirts, and transportation. Feel free to contact Cpl. Jared Willmore to sign up or if you have any questions at (208) 356-5426.
